Every electoral exercise in India generates an enormous volume of data — rich in detail and significance, yet much of it remains fragmented, dispersed across sources, and not readily accessible to key stakeholders.
This book is conceived as an effort to bridge that gap. “75 Years of Indian Democracy – The Indian Election Story in Fact & Figures (1950–2025)” seeks to compile, organise and present comprehensive, year-wise electoral data in a systematic and accessible format. Covering elections to the offices of the President and Vice-President, as well as to the Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies and supported by extensive datasets, this volume aspires to serve as a singular one-stop reference resource.
By bringing together diverse datasets spanning more than seven decades, the book documents the evolution of India’s electoral landscape since Independence. It is intended to support candidates, political parties, voters, political scientists, researchers and academics in undertaking informed analysis, facilitating research and strengthening public understanding of the world’s largest democracy.
